Q News is a gay and lesbian magazine (LGBT) published every second Friday and is based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and is privately owned by Ray MacKereth. It was launched in December 2000 and was originally printed as a tabloid newspaper, after the demise of Brother Sister in November 2000. Currently Q News is the largest fortnightly (bi-weekly) Australian gay and lesbian magazine. Q News was also one of the first newspapers to publish their entire magazine online as well as in print.
The magazine reports on news, events, health, movies, theater, entertainment and interviews of interest to the gay and lesbian community with a team of people who range from employees, to freelance writers and contributors many of whom volunteer their time.
Q News currently has over 400 distribution points for the printed version,[1] including limited outlets in both Melbourne and Sydney. The magazine is involved with community groups, providing information to the LGBT community.
Q News started a community groups website in 1999 to assist LGBT groups with free webspace and offering some free advertising space to not-for-profit community groups and sponsors major gay and lesbian events in Queensland and Northern New South Wales. Q News was a founding member of GLAMA, an alliance of independent gay and lesbian newspapers that cover Australia who work nationally to tackle gay and lesbian issues with hundreds of LGBT organisations.
